TSMC 5nm enters the trial production stage, targeting 5G and AI market

Wafer foundry giant TSMC announced on April 3 that the 5nm process has entered the trial production stage, and under the open innovation platform, a full version of the 5nm architecture will be launched to help customers realize the next generation of advanced mobile and high performance computing applications. The product's 5-nm system single-chip design targets the high-growth 5G and artificial intelligence markets.

TSMC's 5nm process has entered the trial production phase to support the next generation of high-end mobile and high-performance computing applications. Compared to the 7nm process, the 5nm innovative miniature feature provides 1.8x logic on the ARM Cortex-A72 core. Density, speed increased by 15%, in this process architecture, also produced excellent SRAM and analog area reduction.

TSMC pointed out that the 5nm process has the process simplification benefits provided by EUV. Compared with the previous generations of TSMC, it achieves the best technology maturity in the same stage, and is supported by the industry's largest design ecosystem resources. Intensive design cooperation has been carried out to lay a good foundation for product design finalization, trial production activities and initial sample delivery.

Hou Yongqing, deputy general manager of TSMC's research and development and technology development, said that 5 nanometer technology can provide customers with the most advanced logic process in the industry, help solve the need of artificial intelligence and 5G to drive more computing power, and will work closely with design ecosystem partners. To ensure that certified silicon intellectual property and electronic design automation tools are available when customers need it.

TSMC collaborates with design ecosystem partners including Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics and ANSYS to validate the entire line of electronic design automation tools through the TSMC Open Innovation Platform Electronic Design Automation Validation Program to assist customers in making full use of TSMC's 5 nm. Process technology advantages.
