According to data compiled by the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA), the global high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB market has a value of more than $10 billion in 2018, and Taiwan accounts for about 40% of the total value.
Compeq Manufacturing, Tripod Technology, Unimicron Technology and Zhen Ding Technology are among the leading HDI PCB manufacturers in Taiwan.
TPCA pointed out that sales in the smart phone field accounted for nearly 80% of the total output value of Taiwan's HDI PCB industry. TPCA said that because the smartphone is the largest target application, Taiwan's HDI PCB industry is still in an oligopolistic position, and only a few large companies can win orders from smartphone manufacturers.
Despite this, many small and medium-sized companies such as Unitech printed circuit boards and Dynamic Electronics have taken a position in the high-end automotive HDI PCB field. The demand for HDI PCBs for automotive applications is promising.
In general, wearables and TWS devices are other target markets for Taiwan's second-tier HDI PCB suppliers, and they are working hard to unlock the huge business opportunities brought by IoT applications. The emerging 5G and AI technologies will also stimulate laptops demand.
