Maxim delivers a highly integrated, easy-to-design, single-chip security solution that protects sensitive IoT data

January 30, 2018—Maxim Integrated Products, Inc (NASDAQ: MXIM) Announces the MAX36010 and MAX36011 Highly Integrated Single-Chip Security Monitors to Deliver Smarter, More Secure Methods to IoT Product Designers Protect sensitive information stored. Designers don't need to be security experts to easily implement reliable tamper-proof detection and secure encryption and storage with these security solutions, and secure sensitive information with local and physical protection.

Both the MAX36010 and MAX36011 offer powerful security that can be easily integrated into the design at any stage of development. In addition, if the device is integrated later in the design cycle, there is no need to change the platform, which greatly simplifies the development process. With high integration, these devices reduce design cycles by 60% and bill of materials (BOM) costs by 20%. To ensure a higher level of security, these monitors generate keys through a True Random Number Generator (TRNG), which is then stored in battery-backed RAM along with certificates and other sensitive data. The device meets the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 maximum security level requirements (Level 3 and Level 4), which means that data is erased as soon as tampering is detected.

Both the MAX36010 and MAX36011 support symmetric and asymmetric encryption functions such as Data Encryption Standard (3DES), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), RSA, and Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA). These secure encryption engines are designed to meet the Payment Card Industry (PCI) and FIPS 140-2 certification requirements. The MAX36010 generates AES and 3DES symmetric keys, and the MAX36011 generates AES, 3DES, RSA, and ECDSA symmetric and asymmetric keys.

Main advantage

· Highly integrated: 60% shorter design cycle and 20% lower BOM cost compared to the nearest competitive solution

- Includes temperature and voltage sensors, 1Kbyte of secure memory, dynamic tamper detector, real time clock (RTC) and TRNG - eliminating multiple discrete components

- Integrates multiple encryption features including AES, DES, RSA, ECDSA and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) hardware engine

- Host interface includes SPI, Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) and I2C; connect to host processor without developing firmware

· Reliable hardware security: Battery-powered RAM provides storage for sensitive information; dynamic tampering sensors remove sensitive information as soon as they detect a hacker event

· Ultra-low power consumption: 70% lower battery current consumption compared to the nearest competitive solution, effectively extending battery life of end products

Evaluation

· “Today, IoT is a common device in consumers' homes that stores personally sensitive data related to the user's daily activities. Although IoT designers put security first, they are not experts in this area. "Many Maxim's customers have found that the MAX36010 and MAX36011 can be easily integrated into their designs, and most importantly, they fully meet the customer's safety requirements, especially at Maxim Integrated's Microprocessor and Security Products Division product definition, Stella Or. For those seeking the highest level of safety and providing FIPS 140-2 certification."

· “The number of IoT devices will continue to grow exponentially and is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 12% from 27.8 billion in 2017 to more than 135 billion in 2030.” Julian Watson, senior IoT analyst at IHS Markit, said: "The more IoT devices on the market, the greater the risk to consumers' personal data. Therefore, developers need to ensure that the IoT ecosystem is truly secure and secure for users."
