Intel server storage market is another trick! How will Samsung and SK Hynix respond?

According to ETnews, Intel has entered the server memory market, and has introduced a new generation of Intel Optane memory H10 that combines the advantages of DRAM and NAND Flash.

It is predicted that this new memory can create a new memory ecosystem, Intel almost monopolizes the server CPU, which is conducive to the promotion of H10 to the server. In response to the new Intel products, memory giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix said they will launch similar products. One party is the Intel that monopolizes the server CPU, and the other is the giant that monopolizes the memory. It can be said that a war of monopoly and monopoly is on the verge.

The reaction of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has already proved how good the H10 is. On April 26th, Intel introduced this strategic product at the new data center product show held in Korea. The product combines the storage capacity of Intel Optane technology and Intel Quad Level Cell (QLC) 3D NAND technology into a single M.2 module.

Although the product looks like DRAM, its functionality is completely different from DRAM. Although its information processing speed is slower than DRAM, it can record information like a NAND Flash in the event of a power outage. It is the first product based on both DRAM and NAND Flash advantages.

An Intel spokesperson pointed out that although the H10 is slower than DRAM, its price is more competitive and it can store the necessary information even after a power outage.

In addition, Intel and Micron's 3D XPoint technology, which has been developed over the years, can increase the speed of NAND Flash by a factor of 1,000 and extend its useful life. This technology makes the H10 more suitable for use in the server.

Industry insiders call Intel's H10 the next-generation storage device "PRAM." Although Intel said it has never defined "Optane DC Persistent Memory" as a PRAM product, such a statement will not be issued in the future. However, this product is in line with the characteristics of PRAM, in one respect, it combines the advantages of DRAM and NAND Flash.

Experts believe that with the prevail of Intel's acquisition of the next-generation memory market, the advent of the product has shaken the landscape of the memory market. The industry believes that if Intel, which occupies 95% of the server CPU market share, continues to introduce Optane storage products that emphasize compatibility, the memory market will be reshuffled.

Industry insiders stressed that if Intel continues to introduce CPUs that are only compatible with Optane memory, Intel will be able to quickly catch up with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the storage market. In fact, Intel did mention compatibility between the H10 and the 50 second-generation server CPUs released earlier this month.

In the case of Intel's sharpening of the storage market, it is reported that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are also making necessary preparations. Due to the influence of Intel, Samsung Electronics has begun to increase the number of RRAM product developers. A spokesperson for SK Hynix also said that PRAM products are being developed and will be released when the relevant market is open.
