Apple is looking for a 5G baseband chip supply, Qualcomm: Just call, willing to provide

Previously, because of the patent lawsuit between Apple and Qualcomm, Apple's iPhone later chose Intel's baseband chip. However, because Intel's mobile phone 5G baseband chip will not be mass-produced until 2020, it will make Apple's iPhone mobile phone difficult, which may make Apple fall behind in the 5G early battle. Therefore, it is reported that Apple is seeking other suppliers, including Samsung, MediaTek and other manufacturers that have developed 5G baseband chips, but the process is not smooth. Now, according to reports from foreign media, Qualcomm said that as long as Apple opens, Qualcomm will be willing to provide its 5G baseband chip for use.

According to the media "Apple Insider" report, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said that Apple is actively seeking 5G baseband chips. It has already been stated that Gao has passed, and Apple has our phone so far, and our contact information has not changed. Therefore, as long as Apple makes a request on the phone, Qualcomm will support it and will be willing to provide 5G baseband chips to Apple at any time. Cristiano Amon further pointed out that it is currently impossible to comment on what Apple is doing, but the longer any person stagnate in the development of 5G, the higher the threshold will be.

Previous media reports pointed out that Apple and Qualcomm patent lawsuits led Apple to abandon the use of Qualcomm chips and switch to Intel's baseband chips to match iPhones. Because the Intel 5G baseband chip will not be mass-produced until at least 2020, the Apple 5G iPhone is difficult to produce. Previously, Apple reported that it was considering purchasing 5G baseband chips from Samsung or MediaTek. Foreign media reported that Apple had indeed inquired about the possibility of purchasing 5G baseband chips from Samsung. It was only rejected by Samsung because of the insufficient capacity of Samsung 5G baseband chips.

Although Apple intends to use Samsung's 5G baseband chip, it was voted back by Samsung after the inquiry, on the grounds that the current capacity is insufficient. However, market participants also pointed out that at present, Samsung's new Galaxy S10 flagship smartphone will soon launch the 5G version, in order to allow the South Korean market to officially open 5G network, it may indeed have no time to take into account Apple's orders. On the other hand, because Samsung and Apple's mobile phones show a positive confrontation, Samsung's current lead in 5G may not be willing to catch up with Apple so early, which is also a possible reason for Samsung to return to Apple orders with capacity.

Therefore, in the current situation where all parties may not be able to satisfy Apple, market participants also believe that looking back for Qualcomm support may be the best solution, but this part must be decided by the two companies on how to seek reconciliation in the lawsuit. In this regard, it is subject to subsequent development.
